Yearning

Augustine expressed in prayerful poetry how "our hearts are restless until they rest in you my God. ..." The following poems, written out of one's gay or lesbian  experience, express the same yearning.

Give me what I want

Give me what I want, a love on earth
To take my hand and heart and mind and lead
Me through the luxury of thought, the seed
Of acts that shall relieve a bit the dearth
Of beauty in the lives of those who work
Whilst die their souls in stifling smells,
Unnourished even by the noisy croak
Of frogs, so darkened by the hellish murk.

Or if, my God, in this I ask too much,
Let me ask more. Change me with
        your touch
That I may give off what I did receive
And 'stead of wasting bounty wanting love
I shall be worthless and with you I'll shove
All self aside and be what you conceive.
